Carissa's among three other doctors being honored for their outstanding achievement in medicine.
She's the last to speak and has reached the end of her speech.
"And in closing, I say thank you once more. I am completely overjoyed and humbled."
The attendees of approximately one hundred people applaud her as she leaves the stage. They then spend the next few hours, mingling while having hors d'oeuvres and wine.
She snaps a photo with her family and friends.

Later, Carissa is approached by Dr. Oliver McGuire, from Connecticut, who congratulates her. She instantly finds him attractive and seemingly very polite.
They spend the next 30 minutes having casual conversation. She learns that he enjoys rock climbing, hiking, has wanted to be a doctor since he was 10, he's not much of a cook, he's the only child, his mom lives with him, along with her two cats and it's hard for him to resist chocolate cake.
Oliver- "Please excuse me for being so forward, but would you like to have dinner with me tonight?"
Carissa- "Oh, I..."
Oliver- "I apologize; I just put you off, haven't I?"
Carissa- "No, it's not that, it's just that I have dinner plans tonight with my family."
Oliver- "Okay, well..."
Oliver- "How about breakfast tomorrow? I would really like to spend more time with you before heading back to Connecticut."
Carissa- "Breakfast sounds good."
Oliver- "Will 8 work for you?"
Carissa- "Can we make it 9:30?"
They exchange phone numbers and continue to talk for about 10 more minutes then say good-bye.
